From humble beginnings in the 19th century, we’ve grown into a highly respected, innovative construction company with the kind of people clients want to work with: experienced, genuine, and of the highest integrity.

    In 1895, James and George Donley formed a partnership as lathing contractors known as Donley Brothers Company. In 1941, Don and Phil Donley established Ernest F. Donley Sons, Inc. as concrete formwork contractors by purchasing the construction department of Donley Brothers Company. Terry Donley became the company’s third-generation leader, taking over as president and CEO in 1968. In 2002, he handed the baton to his son, Mac Donley, who currently serves as president and CEO.  For more information on our history, please visit our 75th Anniversary pages.



    Donley’s has been honored to support the success of academic, healthcare, cultural, and business institutions that are best in class, or striving to get there. The client list includes: University of Virginia, Case Western Reserve University, George Mason University, James Madison University, Cleveland State University, University of North Carolina, Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, Cleveland Institute of Music, Cleveland Botanical Garden, Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland, Ford, LTV Steel, Boeing and the Cleveland Group Plan Commission.



    Donley’s has helped to build some of Cleveland’s most iconic buildings and spaces: Cleveland Public SquareCase Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management, a Frank Gehry design; Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland, designed by Farshid Moussavi; Cleveland Institute of Music by Charles Young; Cleveland Botanical Garden by Graham Gund Architects; and Tinkham Veale University Center by Perkins + Will.

    Beyond Northeast Ohio, Donley’s has helped clients to build state-of-the-art facilities including: George Mason University's Exploratory Hall, the University of Virginia’s Bavaro Hall, which houses the Curry School of Education; James Madison University’s East Campus Dining Hall; and the University of Mary Washington’s Eagle Village.

    We’ve also extended our geographic reach serving as a concrete subcontractor in Georgia, North and South Carolina and Virginia. This work has been for construction management companies like KBR Building Group at Boeing, Lend Lease at Duke University, and Fluor at Showa Denko.



    Donley’s has been headquartered in Cleveland since its founding. Today, Donley’s has a regional presence with offices in Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
