Donley’s completed the renovation and expansion of the Richard H. Brodhead Center for Campus Life (previously known as the West Campus Union) on the Duke University campus in 2016. Our team restored the building’s dining halls and added a new full-service dining environment and activity spaces for students to interact and socialize. Some spaces remained intact, restored to their original architectural significance, while the core of the building was demolished to allow for an atrium. The contemporary steel and glass facade is open and transparent to the surrounding university and functions as a social hub to welcome students at Duke University.

Serving as concrete contractor to Skanska, Donley’s scope of work on the Richard H. Brodhead Center for Campus Life included:

  • typical foundations supporting cast retaining walls
  • shear walls
  • cores

The entire 112,000-square-foot building reopened in spring 2016.
