Biotechnology Growth Environment & Greenhouse
The Syngenta Biotechnology Growth Environment & Greenhouse is a 130,000 SF testing facility for soil and plants. The building includes a 41,000 SF insulated glass greenhouse constructed above a 64,000 SF cast-in-place basement.
The 136,000-square-foot facility is located within the 50-acre Syngenta RTP Innovation Center. Construction began in 2011 and was performed by nearly 300 local contractors. The project required roughly 500,000 man-hours to complete. As a result of this project, Syngenta added 15 highly skilled jobs to its existing RTP workforce.
Performing turnkey concrete construction, Donley’s excavated the heavy foundations and placed the pile caps, columns, shear walls, and 2-foot-thick cast-in-place pan deck. All placements of the elevated decks were made by hand-screeding and non-mechanical methods in order to accommodate the required tolerance of Ff 50.
