The renovation and expansion of Duke University’s West Campus Union restores the storied building’s dining halls, while inserting a new full service dining environment and activity spaces for students to interact and socialize. Some spaces remained intact, restored to their original architectural significance, while the core of the building will be demolished to allow for a new open atrium. The new contemporary steel and glass facade is open and transparent to the surrounding university and will function as a social hub welcoming students at Duke University.

Serving as concrete contractor to Skanska, Donley’s Concrete Group’s scope of work included:

  • typical foundations supporting cast retaining walls
  • shear walls
  • cores

The entire 112,000-square-foot building reopened in spring 2016.
