The James A. Garfield Memorial is a historical highlight in Lake View Cemetery, dating back to
1885. Over 100 years later, time had taken its toll on this Cleveland Memorial.
The foundation of the 180 ft structure needed to be repaired and supported.

The James A. Garfield Memorial Restoration involved multiple phases as part of the restoration plan
starting with the restoration of the memorial’s deteriorating foundation and
first level. The restoration involved:

  • Demolition
of the existing concrete slab, and previously installed steel shoring

  • Stabilization
of the Structure prior to demo operations

  • Installation
of new concrete foundations, columns, and beams

  • Tuck-pointing
    of the existing crypt walls

  • Relocation
    of the existing boiler

  • Installation
of new underground plumbing, connection to the existing plaza drains
