Public Square Redevelopment
City of Cleveland
The Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument remained open as the iconic feature when approaching the Square from Euclid Avenue. The pedestrian walkway system, a key feature of the Development Plan, integrates the Monument into the overall park and enhances accessibility to it. The other significant statuary now located in Public Square, a statue of founder Moses Cleaveland and mayor Tom L. Johnson was re-positioned in new plazas. A distinctive paving pattern ties in the perimeter walks with diagonal walkway ribbons extending from each corner and merging at the center of Public Square to create a pedestrian plaza. Scope involved coordination with Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District on new water quality and storm-water infrastructure.
